New Bedford is an up-an-coming location on the horror movie map, and Deep Redd is the latest buzz-worthy film among the SouthCoast creative and hip hop communities.

Its first showing in New Bedford is Friday, October 28 at 9 p.m. at the historic Verdean Veterans Memorial Hall, located at 561 Purchase Street.

"I'm very proud of New Bedford videographer, writer, director and producer Lionel Monsanto of 3rd Society Entertainment, who co-hosts the screening," said Erik Andrade of La Soul Renaissance, also co-host of the free command performance celebration.

"This horror short is packed with zombies you may recognize, and features a great local cast with lead actor Rudy Ru Cabrera," he said.

Since Deep Redd's release, the hip hop horror flick has earned 19 film festival awards from around the globe.

"The celebration will feature the film's premiere, plus live musical performances from Shiesty L, MegaMillz.com, Lord Gremithy (Dirty Durdie), EmiliOMG and Jabubu, along with a question-and-answer session with the film's cast, including Monsanto, lead actor Rudy Cabrera, who plays Jason Myers, and director of photography, Michael Siergiej," Andrade said.

Deep Redd was partially shot on location in and around New Bedford, and is rated "R."

"This is strictly a '21+ adults only film' about about a savvy, quick-witted narcissist named Jason Meyers who is confronted by his ex-girlfriend about their past relationship and heart wrenching breakup, but she finds out Jason's reality is more like a nightmare," Andrade said.

The music was scored by New Bedford native Shawn Rudolph.

"As for creating the many special effects, they're not easy to pull off at all, but Monsanto did it without any major financing," Andrade said. "He's just incredible for all he's accomplished."
