Don’t Forget About New Bedford’s Daffodil Field This Spring

Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) confirmed on Thursday, February 24, that Parsons Reserve in Dartmouth would open for the 2022 season. This is the first year that the daffodil fields will be accessible since the spring of 2019, as the reserve was closed off due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

Typically beginning at the end of March and running through early May, the daffodil season is a spectacle that thousands long to see each spring. However, according to the most recent update from the Parsons Reserve website, the daffodils are not yet in bloom as of Tuesday, April 5.

Maybe some warmer weather mixed with April showers will get this season started soon enough, but it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer to see these yellow flowers in Dartmouth.

There is one place I know you can go to get your daffodil field photos as soon as you'd like. While we worked to collect food donations at our drive on Saturday, April 2, I noticed the daffodils at Buttonwood are popping up everywhere. The Friends of Buttonwood Park have been nurturing a beautiful display of flowers at the park for years and it feels like people always forget they are there each season.

I said hello to two of the volunteers who were there tending to the field on that windy morning. They are usually there every Saturday at 10 am to keep the flowers looking their best.

I invite you to explore the field of daffodils at Buttonwood Park as soon as you are able to do so. Located across the street from the Community Center/Warming House, this garden is breathtaking. Honestly, the sweet aroma of these flowers in bloom was intoxicating.
