Downtown New Bedford Is Getting a New Wine Bar
New Bedford's downtown will welcome Coastal Bubbles and Wine Bar just in time for summer.
Mayor Jon Mitchell recently helped welcome a new addition to downtown New Bedford, one I personally am excited about.
We all know some of the best businesses in the area come from those truly passionate about what they do, and that couldn't be anymore true for Tiverton's Alan and Tammy Foshay. When Alan retired, Tammy wanted to have some fun and in her own words she wanted to "play with wine."

This led to plenty of travel, lots of wine drinking around the world and Tammy even taking a job at Westport Rivers and Vineyards managing the tasting room.
You would think all of this would keep the couple busy in retirement, but they were looking for more. Their wine resume went on to include producing the Coastal Wine Trail of Southeastern New England's Annual Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Festival in Westport, the Massachusetts Cheese Festival, the Boston Wine School Wine Festival, and they are about to launch the Johnny Cake Hill Wine Festival coming in October.
Clearly these two have a passion for wine.
Mitchell shared his support of and confidence in the duo at their ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday.
"Tammy and Alan Foshay bring a wealth of experience and passion to this new venture," he said.
The official opening is Saturday, June 7, and I will gladly be one of the first in line. I definitely don't consider myself a wine snob because I like any and all wine, but I was excited to hear that Coastal will be a European wine bar consisting primarily of wines from Portugal, Italy and France, along with a mix from Croatia, Austria, Germany and even a few from the United States.
“It’s a welcome addition to the constellation of unique restaurants in our downtown," Mitchell said, and I couldn't agree more.
While this may be the first most of us are hearing about this new spot, it's actually been awhile since the two started creating Coastal Bubbles Wine Bar.
"It was a couple of years in the making," they told us. "All of our travel centers around wine regions and tasting wine. We wanted to share our travel, wine and experiences while creating a fun relaxing place to enjoy bubbles and of course other wine and beer."
The location is centrally located downtown at the corner of Union Street and Johnny Cake Hill. It even has a patio area so you can sit outside and sip on a crisp bubbly over the summer months.
I don't know about you, but I'm totally excited about this new spot in downtown New Bedford and I just looked at the website and they have a wine club. I'm obsessed.
