FALL RIVER — A New Bedford man, charged as an armed career criminal, has been sentenced to state prison.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office says Christopher Hansen, 32, of New Bedford, was sentenced in Fall River Superior Court on Tuesday to serve three to five years in state prison. Hansen was convicted on November 15 for firearms offenses stemming from a search warrant of his apartment over three years ago.

On July 28, 2015, New Bedford Police executed a search warrant at Hansen's apartment at 434 North Front Street. Police observed Hansen leave the apartment in a vehicle along with his girlfriend and their children. Police stopped the car and brought Hansen back to the department.

In the home, police located several handguns, along with a small amount of marijuana and a bag of cocaine.

Hansen was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm (two counts), and possessing over one ounce of marijuana. He was acquitted of one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine. After the conviction, Hansen pleaded guilty to armed career criminal enhancements.
