The New Bedford Department of Public Health announced that sections of East and West Beaches have been reopened for swimming as of yesterday, and the beach inside Fort Tabor Park reopened as well.

All beaches were closed in New Bedford on Tuesday and Wednesday because of high levels of bacteria from the heavy rain.

According to WBSM, some beaches still remain closed due to high bacteria counts. The beaches that are still closed include O’Toole Beach, Davy’s Locker Beach, Kid’s Beach, J-Beach, and Squid Beach.

Samples of the water were taken yesterday and those areas could reopen later today.
