New Bedford Ballet Presents ‘A New England Nutcracker’ [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]
The show must go on! That's the case again this year with the New Bedford Ballet School.
The school is presenting a holiday tradition, "A New England Nutcracker," on December 9 at Keith Middle School, with two performances at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
New Bedford Ballet President Melissa Scanlon and Artistic Director Rebecca Waskiel joined Townsquare Sunday to discuss this year's performances.
The New Bedford Ballet has been educating both children and adults in ballet for 37 years, and the school has been performing the "New England Nutcracker" for the past 30 years.
This year's performances will take place at a new venue: Keith Middle School.
"It's a bigger venue and there will be two shows that day at one and four," Scanlon said. "We felt we could incorporate the New Bedford community better with a larger venue."
Are the ballet students nervous about performing on a bigger stage? Artistic Director Rebecca Waskiel doesn't think so.
"Most of our students that perform have been on the Zeiterion stage each year, and our Youth Ballet goes into many schools, so they are very good at being able to adapt," she said. "I'm confident they'll be fine on the stage."
Scanlon said the best way to get tickets is through the school's website, newbedfordballet.org.
Townsquare Sunday is a community affairs program, heard every Sunday morning on WBSM.
The program highlights individuals and organizations seeking to make Greater New Bedford a better place to live and work.
