In a world where technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace, AI tools like ChatGPT are often viewed through a lens of curiosity and skepticism. But beyond the headlines and debates, AI can also be a source of creativity and inspiration. It can even help us celebrate the places we love. For example, I recently asked ChatGPT to write a poem about summertime in New Bedford, and the result was a beautifully crafted ode to this historic coastal city.

Here’s the poem that ChatGPT created:

"Beneath the sun's warm, golden rays,
New Bedford wakes to summer days,
The harbor hums with whispered tales,
Of whaling ships and ocean gales."

"The streets are filled with laughter's song,
Where history and heart belong,
The fishing boats, they come and go,
As seagulls dip and breezes blow."

"Children chase the waves that gleam,
On sandy shores where dreams can teem,
Ice cream drips from cone to hand,
A sticky joy that’s simply grand."

"The cobblestones hold memories dear,
Of sailors brave and pioneers,
But in the summer’s gentle light,
New Bedford shines, a pure delight."

*"The sunsets paint the sky with fire,
As twilight dims, the day retires,
And in the harbor, calm and wide,
The city rests, with tranquil pride."

*"So here’s to summers by the sea,
Where old and new blend perfectly,
In New Bedford, where time flows,
Like the tides that ebb and grow."

Having lived in New Bedford since 2020, I’ve gathered the good and the beauty of this city, from its rich history to its bustling waterfront and the enticing varieties of local cuisine. The city’s charm is undeniable. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, summertime in New Bedford offers a blend of history, culture, and coastal charm that is truly unique.
