It may technically still be winter, but there is still a lot planned for the March 12 AHA! Night in downtown New Bedford.

AHA! Director Kim Goddard said the theme of AHA! Night this month is "I AM NB: Storytelling," a continuation of February's program, when most events were wisely held indoors.

All events are free.

Gallery X Showcases ‘Plant Sweeties’ Exhibit

Gallery X wants to help people get over the winter doldrums with an exhibit called "Plant Sweeties." It features artwork by local and regional artists celebrating plants, romance, the color green, life, and abundance.

Storytelling Events Highlight the Theme ‘I AM NB’

"In addition, New Bedford Historical Society has put together a curated speaking program at Gallery X entitled 'I Am New Bedford Journeys,'" Goddard said. "It will focus specifically on the contributions of women of color, both young and old."

The storytelling theme will continue at the First Unitarian Church on Eighth Street, where author Ieva Jusionyte will speak about her award-winning book, Exit Wounds: How America's Guns Fuel Violence Across the Border. The event is free and begins at 6 p.m.

Open Mic and Jazz Jam at the Zeiterion

Storytellers of all types including musicians, poets and spoken-word artists, both professionals and beginners, are invited to the Zeiterion's Speakeasy area on March 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. "People can sign up to share their story during the Open Mic portion of the evening," Goddard said. "Musicians are also invited to join the Jazz Jam Trio also performing that night."
