NBPD Looks Into Report of Homeless Harassing Students for Money
NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police are clearing out a homeless encampment near the Hayden McFadden Elementary School.
Police were made aware of the encampment through a Facebook posting that claimed homeless people living under the I-195 overpass were harassing students for money as the children were walking to and from school.
Police followed up on the complaint and visited the encampment, but there was nobody there at the time. The Department of Public Infrastructure has been notified.
Those inhabiting the encampment will be told to leave, but will also be given helpful information on services that are made available to help them with shelter and other issues.
There were no reports of children being injured or harmed in any way.
