Moby’s at the Melville Starts July 3 [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]

COVID restrictions are gradually disappearing and that means the New Bedford Cultural Community is gearing up for exciting spring and summer in the Whaling City.

Two well-known institutions, Gallery X on William Street and The Whalehouse Airbnb on Madison Street, are working on a new month-long event that starts on July 3 and ends August 1, Herman Melville's birthday.  It's called "Moby's at the Melville."

Moby Dick-related paintings will be on display at Gallery X along with other related art work. Charles Hauk says it's the first time he can recall that Gallery X will be involved in an exhibit focused solely on Moby Dick.

The Whalehouse is the one-time home of Herman Melville's sister, where she welcomed her brother on several occasions. Laura Parrish now operates the home as an Airbnb, and is excited about being a part of the exhibit. The Whalehouse will host sculptures of whales in its garden-area.
