Middleboro Police: School Staffer on Leave After Elementary Student Assaulted
MIDDLEBORO — Police in Middleboro are seeking to charge an elementary school staffer who was placed on leave after allegedly assaulting a student on Thursday.
Officers received reports of the incident at Mary K. Goode Elementary School at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, according to Middleboro Police Chief Joseph Perkins.
The staffer, a part-time cafeteria monitor, allegedly assaulted a fifth grade student — and police are seeking a charge of assault and battery, Perkins wrote in a statement.
The student was evaluated by a school nurse following the incident, and their parents were notified immediately.
Police said the suspect is being summonsed to Wareham District Court.
They will not be identified until the court approves the charge against them.
Middleboro Public Schools immediately placed the staffer on leave after the incident.
