MIDDLEBORO — A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured after he was hit by a car on Route 28 in Middleboro Sunday evening.

Middleboro police said multiple callers reported the crash to emergency services at 7:23 p.m. Sunday.

Officers responded to the scene of the crash at East Grove Street/Route 28 in front of Hannaford's supermarket, arriving to find an injured 15-year-old boy.

He was rushed by medical helicopter to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence after being treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.

Parts of Route 28 were temporarily closed on Sunday night as an investigation into the crash took place.

An investigation by Middleboro and state police is ongoing.

The name of the teenager has not been released, and an update on his condition has yet to be provided as of Monday.

It is unclear if the boy was walking when he was struck.

No further details have been disclosed.
