Middleboro School Counselor Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Intellectually Disabled Child

MIDDLEBORO (WBSM) — A school employee has been arrested by Middleboro Police on charges of assaulting an intellectually disabled child.

Steven Adamec, 50, of Attleboro was arrested and charged with multiple counts of child assault. Adamec works as an adjustment counselor at READS Collaborative, located at 44 Bedford Street in Middleboro.

According to Police Chief Joseph Perkins, READS Collaborative “provides therapeutic services for students with a wide range of challenges.”

Police responded to the school on Friday, November 17 at 3:43 p.m. for a report that an employee had assaulted a child. Perkins said initial investigation suggested that Adamec had allegedly struck a 10-year-old student across the side of their face following an argument.

Perkins said Adamec allegedly dragged the student by the arm and pushed him into a door while escorting him out of a classroom. He then allegedly used his left hand to strike the student across the side of their face.

Police arrested Adamec and transported to the police station for booking. He is charged with assault and battery on a child with injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threat to commit a crime/solicitation of a crime, and assault and battery on a person with an intellectual disability.

Adamec is expected to be arraigned today in Wareham District Court.

According to a provider profile on PsychologyToday.com, Adamec states he is a licensed school adjustment counselor and licensed mental health counselor who specializes in “depression, anger, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, relationship and divorce issues.”
