He sees you when you're driving. He knows when you are late.

He knows if you are on the phone, or when you hit the brakes.

Ohhhhhhh you better watch out, look up really high. You'll want to take noticed, I'm telling you why. Salty the Seahorse should take his hat down!

No, you're not reading an old article. Yes, I'm fully aware it's mid-January – but does Salty know?

If Mattapoisett is in your backyard or on your commute, you know him. You can't help but be drawn to the 38-foot seahorse that stands at the corner of Route 6 and North Street. If you're like my kids, you look forward to seeing him, most likely waving as you drive by.

Now before I continue, I want to make sure you know that I love the holidays. I love holiday decor, and I look to forward to Salty donning that bright red Santa hat every year.

I've always been adamant that Christmas decorations shouldn't go up before Thanksgiving, but my views on that have changed since having little kids. It makes them happy and me happy, too.

But the holidays are well over.

Enough is enough! I'll let the Christmas trees slide through the first week of the new year. Heck, I know it's cold and lights stay on the house for a while. Climbing on a ladder on a 20-degree day when it gets dark at 4:30 p.m. is not pleasant. Just don't turn them on.

Now back to you, Salty. I love you, but c'mon. We've let this go on long enough. We're halfway through the first month. We're about to swear in another president. It's time to turn the page and move on.

You're sweet, but I'm salty.
