Massachusetts and Rhode Island Doughnuts Ranked Best in U.S.
I was today years old when I realized I've been spelling one of my favorite foods wrong. What I thought was "donuts" is properly spelt "doughnuts".
Anyways, that's besides the point.
If there’s one thing I’ll never get tired of, it’s discovering the best doughnuts around—and apparently, I’m not alone. Rory Cooper from Taste of Home went on a mission to find the top doughnut spots in every state, and his choices for Massachusetts and Rhode Island have been well-known for quite some time.
Massachusetts: Kane’s Donuts, Saugus
For more than 40 years, Kane’s Donuts has been serving up sweet perfection, from classic jelly-filled delights to indulgent apple fritters.
Originally founded in 1955, Kane’s has become a New England staple, thanks to its dedication to fresh, high-quality ingredients and a commitment to making each doughnut an unforgettable experience.
In the ‘80s, the Delios family took over the shop, breathing new life into the brand.
Now run by the founders’ four children, Kane’s has expanded to three locations and even introduced a gluten-free line that has received national acclaim. It’s no surprise that Kane’s has been featured in The Boston Globe, Bon Appétit, Travel + Leisure, and even named a top-10 doughnut destination by The Travel Channel.
Rhode Island: PVDonuts, Providence
Over in the Ocean State, PVDonuts has revolutionized the doughnut scene with unique flavors like rosemary brown butter and chamomile yogurt honeycomb. As Rhode Island’s first specialty doughnut shop, PVDonuts prides itself on crafting fresh, handmade treats daily.
Owners Lori and Paul took a major leap of faith when they opened PVDonuts, funding the entire venture themselves without outside investors. Their gamble paid off—now, their shop regularly sees lines out the door, with doughnuts selling out before 3:00 P.M. most days.
Whether you’re craving a true classic or an innovative flavor experience, Taste of Home claims these two New England spots are worth the trip.
