If you're anything like me, the fall season awakens your inner Clark Griswold.  The holidays are right around the corner, but not before I try to force my family to go on a road trip to check out the fall foliage.  Each year I have visions of the whole family decked out in plaid flannel shirts, jeans and boots clogging up Instagram with #nofilter pictures of the colorful mountains behind us.

Unfortunately, I have a bad habit of waiting too long to suggest a road trip up north.  I don't really think of the trip until Columbus Day weekend is rolling around, far too late for the leaves in northern New England.  Peak season is usually closer to late October in our area.

This year's foliage is likely to come early this year, according to Boston.com, with some bright colors appearing as soon as this weekend in places like northern Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

The good news, however, is that we may not have to travel far to see some pretty elite views of fall foliage.  In fact, one Massachusetts location is even beating out spots like Lake Placid, New York, Lincoln, New Hampshire, Franconia, New Hampshire, and Stowe, Vermont.

Incredibly, Boston, MA ranks #4 in the nation for fall foliage in 2024!  According to static.com, only Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Bar Harbor, Maine and Ashville, South Carolina have better fall foliage views in all of America.

The report takes into consideration the number of scenic routes within a 2 hour drive, the length of the foliage season, and the number of hiking and scenic trails.  This year's peak in and around Boston is estimated to be the final week of October and the first week of November.  There are 3 scenic routes within a two hour distance of Boston.
