Jersey Mike’s is doing something today that you almost never see a business do. For the 16th year in a row, Jersey Mike's will be giving away every single dollar it makes.

All day on Wednesday, the sub shop is holding its annual Day of Giving, and according to local franchise owner Caroline Simmons, 100 percent of all sales will go directly to the Special Olympics.

What is Jersey Mike's Day of Giving?

Jersey Mikes Day of Giving is an annual event where the company donates 100 percent of sales to charity, most commonly benefiting the Special Olympics and local community programs.

“It’s unheard of,” Simmons said during an appearance on the MGM Show. “A lot of companies will donate a percentage of sales, but this is every penny.”

SouthCoast Locations See Huge Support

Simmons owns multiple SouthCoast locations, including Fairhaven, New Bedford, Dartmouth, and Middletown, Rhode Island. She says the Day of Giving has become one of the busiest days of the year, often bringing in double the usual number of customers.

“There are people who come in specifically to support the Special Olympics,” she said. “Some might not normally be Jersey Mike’s customers, but today they are.”

Why the Special Olympics Matter Here on the SouthCoast

The cause hits close to home. Simmons works closely with local chapters of the Special Olympics in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and says athletes are often present in stores on the Day of Giving.

“You’ll likely see them if you stop by,” she said. “It’s a big organization, but it’s very local and it touches so many lives.”

That local impact is part of what makes the day so meaningful. Funds raised help support athletes from the SouthCoast community, including some who will compete in upcoming games in Minnesota.

How You Can Help

For Jersey Mike's customers, participating is both delicious and easy. The money spent on every single thing that is bought today goes directly to the Special Olympics, whether it’s a sub, chips or a drink.

For many Jersey Mike's owners and employees, this is their favorite day of the year.
