Believe it or not, Mother’s Day is right around the corner. And we’re already scratching our heads, trying to come up with the perfect gift for mom. What do you get the woman who has given you everything?

Instead of giving her another candle or coffee mug to grace her cabinet, why don’t you celebrate this amazing person by giving back to the SouthCoast community in her honor?

United Way of Greater New Bedford is creating “Baby Bundles” to help local women transition into motherhood and need your help to make it happen.

Imagine that you were expecting your first child and you have no family locally to help you and are newer to the area. You have no idea what a baby really needs and have at least a million and one questions like:

  • What are the necessities my baby needs?
  • What is the best way for my baby to sleep?
  • Am I feeding my baby enough?
  • In what ways can I start teaching my baby?
  • Are there any programs or support groups that can answer my questions?

Having a baby is an exciting, but scary time for any parent - especially if you are in a situation like this. United Way’s Women United is doing its part to help families with new babies with the Baby Bundles program. In 2019, Women United started Baby Bundles as a way to provide new moms the answers to some of the questions about their babies and a few necessities that will get them started. In 2020, 100 babies were welcomed with a Baby Bundle at Wareham Nurse Midwives and the Greater New Bedford Health Center.

Baby Bundles include a package of diapers, a package of wipes, a burp cloth, bib, pacifier, small toy/teether, washcloths, a baby book, baby blanket, stuffed animal, and a "Live United" onesie and bib for the new baby. UWGNB also provides literature about safe sleeping, early learning/literacy, and on local programs like the Family Resource & Development Center, WIC, and FamilyWize.

The value of one of these bundles is estimated at $40 and your generous donation can provide a mom-to-be with these items and the support she needs during this special time. Text the word “MOM” to 243725 to pledge your donation to the Mother’s Day Baby Bundle Fund.

All who donate will be entered to win a $500 gift card to Cardi’s Furniture and Mattresses. Help the mom in your life relax with a new recliner this year. Text to honor your mother in time for Mother’s Day.

This program is made possible by Iz Schwartz Appliance.
