NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Firefighters were on the scene of a house fire on Templeton Street Wednesday morning.

Scanner reports indicate the fire was reported at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday at a home at 50 Templeton Street, which is in a neighborhood off of Rockdale Avenue.

Multiple engines responded to the scene. Firefighters reported seeing heavy smoke and flames coming from the house upon arrival. A pet may also have been trapped inside.

"It was roaring when we got here," said District Fire Chief Steve Beaulieu of the fire.

The flames have since been brought under control, but a large portion of the two-story, single-family home suffered extensive damage.

A total of six New Bedford firefighting apparatus responded to the scene.

Two adult males have reportedly been displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting them with relocation efforts.

No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
