In an effort to encourage patronage of locally owned businesses, the City of New Bedford is waiving parking fees at metered spaces for up to two hours this holiday season.

Mayor Jon Mitchell's Office says from Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24) through New Year's Day (Jan. 1) shoppers in the Downtown and Acushnet Avenue business district can park for free up to two hours in all metered spaces, with fees also being waived for the Elm Street and Zeiterion garages.

If you overstay the two hours and receive a parking ticket, you can mail the ticket to the Traffic Commission Office, along with a same-day receipt showing a minimum purchase of $10 from a New Bedford business, and your ticket will be forgiven.

The Traffic Commission Office is located at 51 Elm Street in New Bedford and is open from Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Questions regarding the Holiday Parking Program should be directed to the Traffic Commission Office at 508-961-3153.
