Five Lesser-Known Major League Teams to Check Out This Season
It's no secret that Fenway Park is home to some of the highest prices in professional sports, but there are plenty of major league teams within driving distance that you may not know about.
With warmer weather just around the corner, make sure to plan a trip and cheer on the home team.
Boston Cannons
The Boston Cannons may be the most well known on this list as a member of Major League Lacrosse (MLL). They've been around since 2001 and won the MLL Championship in 2011. The team plays at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, though spent last season at Gillette Stadium. Paul Rabil, one of the most recognized MLL players, was drafted by the Cannons in 2008 and played with them until traded in 2015.

Boston Breakers
The Boston Breakers are one of 10 teams in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The league opened up in 2013. Before the NWSL, the Breakers began as a charter team of the Women’s United Soccer Association. They play their home games at Jordan Field in Allston, MA. The Breakers lost their 2016 home opener 0-3 to Seattle Reign FC.

Boston Whitecaps
The Boston Whitecaps may be one of the least know professional teams in Massachusetts, but they are off to a fast start in Major League Ultimate. The men's ultimate frisbee team is one of the original eight that began their inaugural season in 2013. Since then, the Whitecaps have won two championships, in 2013 and 2015. The Caps play at Hormel Stadium in Medford, MA.

Boston 13s
The Boston Thirteens are members of the USA Rugby League (USARL). The team was founded in 2009 as an expansion team of the American National Rugby League, which at the time was the governing body of rugby in the U.S., before moving to the USARL in 2011. The Thirteens won the 2015 USARL Championship and play at Boston University's Nickerson Field in Boston.

Rhode Island Rebellion
Speaking of the Rhode Island Rebellion, they are the Ocean State club affiliated with the USARL. The Rebellion play at Brown University's Marvel Field in Providence. The club joined the league in 2011.
