A fire Friday night in an apartment building in Fall River is under investigation.

The fire began around 6:30 p.m. at the Mount Apartments on Middle Street, and when fire crews arrived, they spotted flames coming from a fourth-floor apartment.

Fire Chief John Lynch told the Herald News the fire was confined to that apartment and the attic and there were no injuries reported. Three cats, however, perished in the blaze.

The building contains 96 apartment units. Municipal buses were sent to the scene to keep displaced residents out of the cold.

Firefighters from Swansea, Freetown, and Tiverton provided mutual aid, covering city fire stations while Fall River fire crews battled the fire.

Officials say the building was once the Mount St. Mary's Acadamy, a Catholic high school for girls
