A fire early Saturday morning caused extensive damage to a three-story building at 110 Eighth Sreet in New Bedford.

Firefighters were called to the scene just before 2:30 am after flames were spotted coming from a third floor window.

According to the Fire Department Union's Facebook page, the building contained 13 units, and all of the tenants were able to evacuate safely.

Extensive damage was reported, both on the exterior and interior of the structure.

A New Bedford EMS crew did transport one tenant to St. Luke's Hospital. The tenant fell after exiting the building. There's no word on that person's condition.

No firefighters were injured, but one cat perished in the fire.

According to the department, ten tenants were displaced by the fire, and are now being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The fire remains under investigation by the fire department's Fire Investigation Unit.
