NEW BEDFORD - A fire in New Bedford's North End on Wednesday has been brought under control.

The fire was reported on the third floor of a four story multi-family home at 237-239 Ashley Boulevard at 5:46 a.m. Wednesday.

New Bedford Fire Chief Michael Gomes tells WBSM News all of the families in the ten-unit building were able to escape without injury. A dog was safely removed from the building by firefighters.

Chief Gomes says the fire was contained to the room of origin, and was brought under control within half an hour.

One family has been displaced. They will be receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Chief Gomes says the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to be accidental.
