Falmouth Home Severely Damaged After Car Crashes Into It

FALMOUTH (WBSM)—A Falmouth home was deemed unlivable after a car smashed into it early Sunday morning.

The Falmouth Fire Rescue Department responded to 780 E. Falmouth Highway at 2:35 a.m. on July 7 for a motor vehicle crash into a structure.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a mid-sized SUV in the kitchen of a home.

According to the fire department, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle pulled himself out before first responders arrived. The person was transported to Falmouth Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All home occupants and pets were also evacuated, with no sustained injuries.

Significant damage was reported to both the vehicle and the home, including an active water leak, electrical hazards and structural compromise.

The Falmouth Fire Department said that the damaged floor joists were shored from the basement to remove the vehicle.

Crews also cleared structural members around the car where it entered the exterior wall. At around 5:38 a.m., the vehicle was successfully removed from the home.

The driver of the vehicle is charged with OUI (Liquor), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, stop sign violation, speeding, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of property damage.

The house is reportedly uninhabitable, and town inspectional services are working with the owners.

In 2021, the property was also the site of a fatal crash that took the life of the vehicle operator.
