Leasa Grinnell has lived in Fairhaven nearly her entire life, but even she was surprised when a local restaurant showed its true colors after a lost envelope filled with Christmas cash was returned.

Grinnell said she had just finished making a withdrawal from her bank before she headed to The Phoenix for breakfast. She said she is not sure exactly how she did it, but after paying for the meal, she must have missed her purse and dropped the envelope of cash onto the floor.

She left The Phoenix before she even realized the money was gone. Later, when she went to retrieve the envelope, she noticed it was missing.

“The first thing I thought of was, welp, I hope someone has a nice Christmas with that money,” she said. “I hope whomever found it has a good use for it. May it spread some cheer.”

It is never a good time to lose a wad of cash, but it stings a little more two weeks before Christmas.

Fairhaven Restaurant Staff Steps Up

However, as well as Grinnell knows the townspeople of Fairhaven, she assumed wrong. A busboy named Ayden at The Phoenix noticed the envelope of cash on the floor and immediately gave it to the restaurant’s owners.

Grinnell was stunned. “There are still some great people in the world," she said.

A Heartwarming Holiday Moment In Fairhaven

Phoenix owners Jenny and Chris made sure the envelope was kept safe and that the rightful owner received it. It left Grinnell feeling incredibly grateful and proud of her hometown.

"Jenny did not want anything for returning the envelope, so I ordered a breakfast for my husband and just left the amount of money I was going to give her as a tip. I also left the busboy something," she said.

A Reminder of Good People on the SouthCoast

The following morning, Grinnell showed up at The Phoenix to pick up the cash. She stayed and bought another breakfast. This time, however, she kept the envelope of cash safely tucked inside her pocket.
