We've been watching the devastation in the Los Angeles area with disbelief. It is simply heartbreaking and can make you feel helpless, not knowing what to do. That's why we were so happy to hear about something special happening in Fairhaven this weekend.

This Sunday, head down to Fairhaven Village to enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate for a great cause. Heather Anderson, a special education teacher at the Fonseca School in Fall River, is organizing a hot chocolate stand to raise funds for the victims of the devastating wildfires in California. The cocoa stand will be set up from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the corner of Green Street and Maple Avenue. You can't miss it if you're driving down to Fort Phoenix.

The idea is simple: for just $1 per cup of hot cocoa, everyone can contribute to supporting those affected by the fires. Heather told the MGM show that Fairhaven Village has a history of coming together for fundraising efforts, including past initiatives for Ukraine and the fires in Hawaii. In fact, she's already received offers from neighbors to donate baked goods to sell alongside the hot chocolate.

The goal is to raise as much money as possible to split between two important organizations: the L.A. Firefighters and the L.A. Regional Food Bank. Both nonprofits are helping people rebuild their lives after the fires.

"A couple of years ago, when Ukraine was invaded, we held a bake sale and sent all the money to World Central Kitchen to help with food relief," Heather said. "Our neighbors were incredible, and we raised over $1,000 for that." In another effort, she and her family organized a book sale to raise funds for the Maui Humane Society after the devastating wildfires there.

As for the hot chocolate, you can expect the classic Swiss Miss brand, with marshmallows available to top it off. If you don’t have cash, Venmo will be an option.
