What is Dubai chocolate and why is the internet obsessed with it?

For starters, it’s not your typical chocolate bar. Created by a Dubai-based chocolatier who was simply looking to satisfy pregnancy cravings, the viral Dubai chocolate has taken over everyone's TikTok feed.

The creator, Sarah Hamouda, told Today that demand has skyrocketed and her company, Fix Dessert Chocolatier, has gone from six orders a day to 100 orders per minute.

“Dupe” recipes are now popping up, but if you’re looking for the real thing, Sonia’s Deli in Cranston, Rhode Island is the place to go.

Sonia’s Deli

Ara Janigian has owned Sonia’s with his sister since 2011.

“Our dream was to create more than just a deli in Cranston,” he said. “It’s about bringing to life the flavors of our Armenian heritage, blended with an American twist.”

The deli’s market offers unique products that are typically hard to find, so it's no surprise that Janigian was quick to find a supplier of the viral chocolate.

“I saw it all over social media and my customers were asking for it, so I called some of my international vendors and it took me two months to find a supplier,” he said.

The goods took one week to arrive at Sonia’s and only 48 hours to sell out.

The good news is that a new shipment will arrive at Sonia’s by early next week, but don’t wait too long. Chances are that this batch will sell out just as quickly.

What Is Dubai Chocolate?

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the last bar at Sonia’s, and I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor.

Inspired by the Middle Eastern dessert called knafeh, the milk chocolate bar is filled with a creamy mixture of crispy knafeh bits, pistachio and tahini paste.

It was crunchy, flavorful, and fully deserves the status of “viral.”

Keep an eye on Sonia's Deli and stay in the know about the deli’s next shipment.

You don’t want to miss out.
