LAKEVILLE - The hunt for a suspect continues after a highway police chase through several local communities on Monday.

Massachusetts State Police say a State Trooper traveling east on I-195 in Westport at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Holden. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, which accelerated to dangerous speeds, causing the trooper to lose sight of the car.

State Police say another trooper spotted the vehicle about ten minutes later on Rt. 140 North in Lakeville. Another attempt to stop the vehicle was made, with the vehicle once again speeding away.

At that point, members of the Freetown Police Department successfully deployed a tire deflation device, prompting the driver of the suspect vehicle to abandon his car on the Exit 9 off-ramp in Lakeville. The driver fled into the woods on foot.

Massachusetts State Police established a perimeter and searched for the driver with help from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing and K-9 Units, as well as the Berkley, Lakeville and Freetown police departments. Efforts to locate the driver were unsuccessful.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
