SouthCoast-Area Beloved Pediatrician Dr. Charles Gormley II Set to Retire
In a letter sent out to Hawthorn Medical Pediatrics patients earlier this month, Dr. Charles J. Gormley II, MD has announced his retirement.
“It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to announce my retirement from Hawthorn Pediatrics," Dr. Gormley said. "For the past 35 years, it has been my privilege to watch your children grow and achieve milestones, and assist them during illness and difficult trying times. It has been an honor to be part of your lives.”
As noted, Dr. Gormley has been a pediatrician in the SouthCoast community for the past 35 years. Many of his former patients may recall his second floor office on Grape Street that was followed by a move to State Road in Dartmouth before finally joining the Hawthorn Medical practice in July of 2012.
Loved for his "common sense approach," many former pediatric patients chose Dr. Gormley to be their own children’s pediatrician. Time and time again, Dr. Gormley won local accolades for is patient experience including winning Best of the Best and Reader’s Choice.
With a number of five-star reviews from various patient-review sites like Vitals, WebMD, and HealthGrades, patients have rated Dr. Gormley very highly, including high marks in making time for patients, listening attentively, and providing clear explanations.
Many of the reviews and social media comments throughout the years all echo the same sentiment.
“He is a wonderful physician from what I have seen. I trust him to provide care for my children as he did for me as a child," one review stated. "I would recommend him to anyone. He is very caring and compassionate. If he can not find out the problem at first glance he will go to the ends of the earth to solve the problem. My children and I love him.”
Dr. Gormley is a graduate of Tuft University School of Medicine. He completed a pediatric residency and a fellowship in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is board certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
His last day will be December 30, 2021.
