The Town of Dartmouth, like communities all over the Commonwealth, will honor military veterans on Monday, November 11 – Veterans Day.

Festivities in Dartmouth will take place at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Grove on the site of the Dartmouth Council on Aging off Dartmouth Street.

Veterans Services Agent Matt Brouillette stopped by Townsquare Sunday this week to explain the services offered by his office and preview the upcoming ceremony.

"If you put the uniform on, Veterans Day is your day," Brouillette said. "We are honoring all veterans for the service and sacrifice they've made."

Brouillette said the ceremony will include the Dartmouth Police Color Guard, the playing of the National Anthem by the Dartmouth Community Band, and remarks by the chairperson of the town's Veterans Advisory Board.

Boy Scout Troop 74 in Dartmouth will also be presenting a special gift to all veterans attending the ceremony. Refreshments will follow in the Dartmouth Council on Aging building, and all veterans are welcomed to attend.

According to Brouillette, Dartmouth is home to more than 1,500 veterans, and he's encouraging any veteran with questions or issues to stop by his office.

"That's why I'm here, so they can come in, discuss things, and get them the help that they need," he said. "To have those one-on-one conversations with veterans is, to me, the most rewarding part of the job."

Brouillette said are most visitors to his office inquire about VA health care benefits but there are other questions as well.

"Massachusetts is unique in that it offers monetary benefits to veterans, their widows or spouses," he said. "It's not a lot of money, but it can help veterans or widows from not having to decide between spending on food or medication."

If you have questions about Federal VA or Massachusetts veterans benefits, you can contact the Dartmouth Veterans Services Office at (508) 910-1818. The complete interview with Matt Brouillette can be heard here:
