Dartmouth’s Theresa Street Summer Classic Is July 15-16 [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]
A Dartmouth-based non-profit is raising money to help community organizations doing meaningful work in our region.
A group of friends got together 15 years ago in a Dartmouth backyard to play some wiffle ball. That event is now known as the Theresa Street Summer Classic, and will be played this year July 15-16 at Stackhouse Field in Dartmouth. Admission is free, but donations will be gladly accepted.
Theresa Street President Ray Paul Biron has also scheduled a music concert for Saturday night, July 15, at The Vault in New Bedford.
We spoke with Biron this week on Townsquare Sunday about the group and its fundraising efforts.
"In 2020 we realized as we had hundreds of people competing and attending the tournament in my backyard, that we could do something more impactful, and use that energy to do something good to benefit the greater SouthCoast," said Biron said.
Theresa Street incorporated as a non-profit in 2020, and since that time has raised more than $100,000 to assist organizations such as Dartmouth Unified Sports, NorthStar Learning, The Caring Network, and #bishstrong, which is an ongoing fund raiser for DJ Bishop as he recovers from injuries suffered in a tragic accident.
This year, funding from the tournament and the July 15 concert will benefit New Bedford Star Kids, which provides educational opportunities for high risk, low income young children who have a parent with a history of incarceration or substance abuse.
Tickets for the benefit concert at The Vault are available at TheresaStreet.org. Performers will include the Bad News Band and rapper Skizzy Mars.
"I have a great group of friends and family and had great opportunities in my life," Biron said. "I think it's very important to think about giving back to others so they can have opportunities as well."
