Let’s face it. You know when you are doing something wrong and when you are doing something right. Your inner Jiminy Cricket lets you know. Sometimes, though, we need a little reminder to help us do the right thing, and that is where the Dartmouth Police Department steps in.

Why Dartmouth Police Issued a Snow Removal Reminder

The Dartmouth Police Department has issued a statement reminding everyone of the obvious. You are not allowed to shovel, snow blow, or plow snow into the street. It doesn't even matter if the snowplow just ruined your perfectly cleared driveway.

Can You Shovel Snow Into the Street in Dartmouth?

The short answer is no. Granted, it can get difficult, especially as snowbanks get higher and higher, but the street cannot be an option. Pushing snow into the roadway creates hazards for drivers, pedestrians, and plow operators trying to clear roads safely.

Here's the Fine For Pushing Snow into a Dartmouth Street

If you are caught pushing snow into Dartmouth streets, you could be hit with a $150 fine. That amount is significantly higher than what nearby communities charge for the same violation.

New Bedford Snow Removal Rules

Gazelle wrote this on Fun107.com last winter. According to the City of New Bedford Code of Ordinances, it is illegal to shovel or plow snow into public roadways. Anyone caught doing it could face a $50 fine. The ordinance prohibits placing snow or ice onto city streets.

Why This Matters for Plows and Safety

If we do end up getting hit with the bomb cyclone that T.J. Del Santo warned about this morning on the MGM Show, it might be tempting to risk a fine to get rid of snow quickly.  Maybe the $50 is worth the convenience in New Bedford.  No! I'm kidding! But it is a good deal compared to Dartmouth.
