It took a while, but the commercial marijuana industry appears to be sprouting like – well, a wild weed. Several retail cannabis establishments are already operational in the area, and several others are currently under construction.

The Plainville-based Apotho Therapeutics will conduct a virtual community outreach meeting next week on its proposal for a retail marijuana establishment in Dartmouth. Christopher Shea wrote a piece about it in the current edition of Dartmouth Week.

TheDispensaryGenie.com reported in February 2021 that the Dartmouth Planning Board granted approval to Apotho Therapeutics' proposal for a marijuana dispensary at 479 Faunce Corner Road, but the deal with the property's owner fell apart after the article was published.

The Planning Board approved a revised proposal from Apotho Therapeutics in January 2022 for a retail facility at 747 State Road, the site of the former Near East Asian Fusion Restaurant.

In March, the town's selectboard approved a plan for Apotho Therapeutics to grow marijuana at the former Dartmouth Indoor Tennis Club located nearby.

Shea reported that during the virtual meeting the owners "will conduct a presentation focusing on the proposed site, building security, and how the retailer plans to contribute to the community."

If a host agreement is reached and the project is approved by the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, Apotho Therapeutics would become Dartmouth's second retail marijuana operation. Solar Therapeutics is constructing a retail facility on Faunce Corner Road.

There are currently marijuana dispensaries operating in Seekonk, Somerset, Fall River, Fairhaven and Wareham. Two retail facilities are under construction in New Bedford.

The virtual hearing for Apotho Therapeudics' Dartmouth facility is Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 4 p.m. Anyone with questions or a desire to join the hearing can contact Apotho Therapeutics owner Mathew Medeiros at matt@apothotherapeudics.com.
