Classrooms around the world look entirely different than they did back in 2019. This academic year has shown many challenges, but teachers everywhere have faced them with grace and for that, we cannot thank them enough.

Miss Katie Faria is a preschool teacher at Coastal Kids Inc. in Dartmouth. A parent named Kristen Dube nominated her for the overwhelming amount of love and support her daughter has received at the school.

"As soon as I saw this award going out, I knew I had to nominate Miss Katie! Before I had kids, I was a parent who was against daycare, preschool, anyone but family helping with kids. This September we enrolled our daughter in Coastal Kids at the Dartmouth location twice a week for preschool at the age of three. Miss Katie has made my daughter's (and my family’s) first experience with school amazing! The first week of school, my daughter was playing school at home calling herself “Miss Katie!” At each drop-off, Miss Katie greets every child with a smile, a high-five, and something positive and personal. Every. Single. Day.

A few things stand out when I think of why Miss Katie is deserving of this award. She truly cares about the kids and their families and lives outside of school. She asks my daughter what she did the day before, how she slept, even what she brought for lunch (they have favorite foods in common). My daughter is always excited to see Miss Katie and often asks to stay behind (I’m not as cool!).

As a nurse during this pandemic, it is comforting to know my child is being well taken care of in a caring and nurturing environment with teachers who genuinely care about the well-being of the child and their families. Preschool teachers are definitely underrated! Miss Katie has made such a positive impact on my daughter’s life she often says she wants to be a teacher! I know she will continue to do great things and continue to inspire other children in her career!"
