Some back news for fans of the Macy's retail store.

The company has announced that the Kingston location, located in the Independence Mall, is on the list of targeted stores that it intends to close in the coming months.

A list of 66 locations across the country was released late last week, and Kingston was the only Massachusetts location included. Both Rhode Island Macy's locations—at the Providence Place Mall and the Warwick Mall—were spared.

Not surprisingly, the rather profitable Dartmouth location managed to stay off the closure list.

The Macy's company reached out to Fun 107 after its initial announcement that it would close 150 stores over the next three years. The parent company for Macy's clearly showed significant respect for the 90 SouthCoast employees who work for the retail giant.

"Our new strategy is designed to return Macy's Inc. to profitable growth and enhance the customer experience. We intend to close approximately 150 Macy's stores over the next three years. This allows us to focus our investments and resources on Macy's go-forward locations, including full-line, furniture, and current off-mall locations, as well as Bloomie's, Bloomingdale's The Outlet, and Bluemercury stores. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers at Macy's Dartmouth."

With the Dartmouth location avoiding the latest round of closures, Macy's statement, so far, has proven to be true. That’s great news for both employees and shoppers alike.  This may mean that not only will the Dartmouth Macy's survive, it could thrive with Macy's making an investment into improvements.

It was uplifting to see the company make such a definitive announcement so publicly and so quickly after the ominous news.

This speaks to the level of respect the staff in Dartmouth has earned.
