DARTMOUTH — Dartmouth High School athletics programs are on pause this week due to a surge in COVID cases reported in the district, officials announced Tuesday.

The school system joins New Bedford and other districts across the state that have put a temporary pause on athletics programs through the weekend.

In a Jan. 4 letter to student-athletes and families, Dartmouth High Athletic Director Andrew Crisafulli stated that the decision "was driven by the rising amount of COVID-19 positive cases within our athletic program."

Crisafulli noted that officials will reassess the situation on Monday, Jan. 10 and will decide how to move forward and implement a safe return to practices and games.

"Every effort will be made to reschedule postponed competitions," he wrote.

Athletics programs at New Bedford High and Middle schools are also on pause this week after the city district made the decision on Tuesday.
