Dartmouth Hot Dog Joint Dukie’s Doggz Back After Two-Year Hiatus
An old hot dog stand in Dartmouth has returned after a two-year hiatus. Thanks to new owner Angie DeBortoli and her son Kyle, the legacy of "Dukie" the dog lives on as Dukie's Doggz at Hathaway and Slocum roads.
For 40 years, Dukie's catered to the golfers at New Bedford Country Club, nestled conveniently by the 12th hole. The place closed down a couple of years back and is now being taken care of by the DeBortolis family.
Dukie's officially reopened about a month ago and is starting to gain traction among new customers
I'm one of them.

Since today is National Hot Dog Day, what better way to celebrate than with some hot dogs from a place I haven't tried yet?
Kyle took my order while his mom got to work making it.
Of course, I had to go with the Rodeo Dog (Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce and crispy onions on an all-beef steamed Nathan's brand hot dog) and the Mac & Cheese Dog (self-explanatory).
I have no regrets.
“I used to cater for Harriet’s Catering in Mattapoisett for 18 years before she retired," Angie said. "This place was my way of continuing within the food industry and also keeping the legacy of Dukie the Dog alive."
The owner of the building Angie rents from lost his beloved dog so in honor of him, she kept the name Dukie's Doggz and added her own flair to the place and menu. Customers get a little story:
"Once upon a time, there was a tiny little Yorkie named Dukie. Dukie was a little ball of energy who loved to play and run around the house all day long."
While waiting for my order, a group of men playing a round of golf made their way over for some lunch, too. It was obvious that it wasn't their first time and the DeBortolis team jumped to action to get the gentlemen their "doggz". The business offers hot dogs, sandwiches and even ice cream. There's ample parking alongside Hathaway Road across from Hope Evangelical Community Church. Just be careful when opening your door as it's a rather busy area.
If you're looking for an easy and satisfying way to support small businesses here on the SouthCoast, picking up some hot dogs should do the trick.
