Craigslist Dirt Bike Thief Strikes Again
NEW BEDFORD — Police are once again seeking charges of larceny of a motor vehicle against Mike Robles-Negron, 20, of 38 Malden Street, New Bedford, after he took a dirt bike being sold on Craigslist for a test drive Monday and never returned.
He has been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle for a similar incident July 3 in the area of Carlos Pacheco School. That case is continued to Sept. 21, 2017.
The victim in Monday’s incident, a 26-year-old Blackstone man, listed the bike for sale on Craigslist. He arranged to meet with Robles-Negron, who used an alias, on Tabitha Lane.
When the man brought the bike to that location, Robles-Negron asked to take the bike on a test ride and never returned.
This is the seventh such incident in recent months of online transactions that led to thefts.
The public is reminded to use caution when making transactions online. The New Bedford Police headquarters, at 871 Rockdale Ave., is a safe zone for Internet transactions. The area is always under surveillance and the public is encouraged to use the lot as a safe location for transactions.
