The overflow shelter will be open this evening.

Raymond Duarte, Program Manager for Catholic Social Services, says they decided to activate the shelter due to expected weather conditions and guests will be allowed to stay in the building for an extended period of time once morning arrives as the temperature will be extremely frigid.

Guests can begin arriving at 6 p.m. and will be allowed in on a first come, first serve basis until the shelter reaches its 25 person capacity.

The shelter is located at 71 Division St. in New Bedford.

Duarte says individuals with medical issues are being advised to head to St. Lukes Hospital since the shelter may not be able to meet their needs.

Anyone with questions can call the shelter at 508-997-3202 or 1-800-HOMELESS (1-800-466-3537).
