Celebrate Giant Pumpkins at this Free Family Event

Farmers have been growing their pumpkins to near record size, now you can watch them get weighed at this free family event in Rhode Island.

It's the annual Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Growers Weigh Off and it's happening on Saturday October 6th at Frerichs Farm in Warren, RI.

This is a fun, family day at the farm where kids and adults can be amazed by these massive fruits and see just how big this season's pumpkins and gourds got.

Last year the winner was over 1900 lbs, so you never know how huge this year's crop will be.

In addition to watching the weigh off, people can enjoy a free corn maze, a pirate ship and western town for the kids to climb on, pumpkin painting, build your own scarecrow activities and more.

Admission to the event itself is free, though some of the activities have a small cost and it is $5 to park at the farm.

There are also food trucks on site and art vendors, making it a full day of fall fun.

The event happens Saturday October 6 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and the rain date is Sunday October 7th.
