Carver Police Recover Stolen Dirt Bike, Suspects Remain at Large

CARVER (WBSM) — Carver Police are investigating after officers recovered a stolen U-Haul truck with a stolen dirt bike inside it.

According to Chief Marc Duphily, police received a report of suspicious activity at about 4:25 a.m. today on Wenham Shores Drive. A caller reported two men were loading an ATV into the back of a U-Haul. The caller told police there was a pair of bolt cutters on the seat of the ATV.

Officers headed to the area, and a U-Haul passed them driving down Center Street, headed toward Main Street. The officers observed the U-Haul pull into the Carver Public Library parking lot, located right next to the police station.

The two men in the U-Haul then fled from the vehicle on foot into the nearby woods. Officers chased them and searched for the suspects but could immediately locate them.

A perimeter was established, with assistance from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit and Plympton Police.

Officers still failed to locate the suspects after an extensive search.

The suspects left the ATV in the middle of Wenham Road prior to coming in contact with the police. Officers also found a dirt bike in the back of the U-Haul that had been stolen earlier in the morning from a home on Tremont Street.

The dirt bike and ATV were returned to their proper owners.

The U-Haul itself was recently reported as stolen out of Taunton.

According to police, the suspects are believed to be part of a group that has been stealing moving trucks and using them to steal dirt bikes, ATVs and other items in the region in recent months.

They said one of the suspects was believed to be wearing a white sweatshirt, and that anyone with information on this incident or any other similar incidents should contact Carver Police at (508) 866-2000.
