FAIRHAVEN (WBSM) — Fairhaven Police arrested a New Bedford man Feb. 2 for illegally carrying a firearm along with additional charges.

The Fairhaven Police Department was called to the Green and Cedar streets for a report of a suspicious person wearing rubber gloves and placing pantyhose over his head.

Officers located that individual, later identified as Carlos Britto, 55, in a parked Honda Accord that had stolen registration plates.

An on-scene investigation turned up a loaded 9mm handgun under the driver's seat of the Accord and zip ties, duct tape, latex gloves, plastic bags, and a pillow elsewhere in the vehicle.

Britto, who does not have a firearms license, was arrested at the scene.

He was arraigned Friday in New Bedford District Court, where he was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing that is scheduled for next week.
