There was a carjacking yesterday afternoon in the parking lot of the Market Basket in New Bedford. According to New Bedford Police, Market Basket employees chased a man who had just stolen 6 jugs of Tide laundry detergent from the store. The suspect left behind the Tide, and jumped into a white pickup truck.

Inside that pickup truck was a 31 year old Fairhaven man who says the suspect told him to drive away or he would “F___ him up.” The Fairhaven man drove around to the back of Market Basket, where the suspect jumped out of the truck and ran towards Belleville Ave. The Fairhaven man went back to Market Basket and waited for police to arrive. No one was hurt. Below is a picture of the suspect from Market Basket's surveillance. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Steven Wadman at 508-991-6300 ext. 132
