Journey Through the Inside of a Whale at This Acushnet Event
New Bedford has long been known as the Whaling City, but how much do you actually know about whales?
Buzzards Bay Coalition has an exhibit coming to Acushnet that will make you a whale insider. ... Really. You can go inside a whale.
Add this unique event to the list of things you can bring the kids to this summer, although you only have one day and a few hours to take it all in.
The coalition is bringing "Itty Bitty Bay Adventure: A Whale Of A Tale" to Acushnet Wednesday, July 6.
Yes, you'll journey inside a whale -- well, a mock whale. It's a giant blow-up version you can explore inside to learn about the anatomy of these majestic creatures. The exhibit will share some of our area's rich history as the once-whaling capital of the world, along with important info about how to preserve today's whales.
Don't worry. This is a very budget-friendly activity seeing as it's absolutely free.
However, space is limited so it's recommended you register ahead of time.
The event takes place at The Sawmill on Mill Road in Acushnet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
I'll admit it, New Bedford Public Schools did a great job of teaching me the history of our great Whaling City but I have a feeling they didn't get the "inside scoop" on whales like we will at this exhibit.
The coalition also has a slew of other events listed on its website, including the 2022 Falmouth Road Race in August and the Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride in October.
