Can You Pronounce These Unusual Rhode Island Town Names?
One of the surest signs that someone is a tourist in New England is their ability to pronounce tricky town names.

The Trickiest Indigenous Names in Rhode Island
Plenty of Indigenous village names still exist all across Rhode Island like Chepiwanoxet, Neutaconkanut and Usquepaug. Though a few town names can also be tough.
Like Scituate. Many people try it out with a "Sk-" at the front, though for some reason its pronunciation jumbles the letters to be "SIH-choo-ayt".
Even the deceivingly simple East Greenwich can trip people up due to the British pronunciation of "GREN-itch" rather than "Green-witch" as it's spelled.
How Many Indigenous Names Are in Rhode Island?
Overall Rhode Island still has about 200 Indigenous names for towns, ponds, rivers and more throughout the entire state. So clearly Breeze Airways travelers still have lots of words to master before appearing as locals in this New England state.
