Boston Fed Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs By TV’s Frasier Crane
Some television characters become so ingrained in American culture that it is difficult to see the performers who portray them in any other role, no matter how they try.
Henry Winkler is forever "The Fonz." Lucille Ball could never be anyone but Lucy Ricardo. Michael Richards will always be Kramer. Kelsey Grammer is Dr. Frasier Crane.
The character of psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane first appeared on the NBC sitcom Cheers, about a fictional bar in Boston in 1982. Dr. Crane began as a recurring character but quickly became a regular.
When Cheers ended on May 20, 1993, 11 seasons and 275 episodes later, Kelsey Grammer and Dr. Frasier were spun off into the series Frasier, which lasted another 11 years and 264 episodes.
In the spin-off, Dr. Crane moves to his hometown of Seattle, where he works as a radio host with a new circle of friends.
Frasier ran on NBC from 1993 to 2004, but that wouldn't be the last we'd hear from Dr. Frasier Crane.
In October of 2023, a new Frasier series premiered on Paramount+ starring Grammer, but Dr. Crane was back in Boston and no longer a radio star.
For the entire run of Frasier on NBC, each episode ended with Grammer performing the theme song he wrote, "Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs."
Media Play News recalls how the 2023 version of Frasier was promoted by "serving up tossed salads and scrambled eggs at a food truck hosting Cheers and Frasier trivia" and "showcasing a literal Frasier 'Crane' banner" from a 60-foot crane.
There were trivia nights at the iconic Cheers bar at 84 Beacon Street as part of the celebration.
The Frasier reboot on Paramount+ is now in its second season.
