More Than Luck? Celtics Look for Repeat Finals Win on ‘Magic Number’ Date
The Boston Celtics are bringing the NBA Finals home to TD Garden for Game 5, hoping to trounce the Dallas Mavericks and claim the championship banner, their 18th, for the first time in 16 years.
A win, like Boston's three other wins in the series so far, will ultimately come down to the talent on the court.
That's not stopping folks from getting excited about a Game 5 clincher for some other reasons, including the potential magic of numbers.
There's a meme going around that spells it all out.
Game 5 is set for June 17, 2024.
The Celtics won their last championship, against the Los Angeles Lakers, on June 17, 2008.
June 17 is 6/17.
What's the famous Boston area code? 617.
Even back in 2008, people were intrigued by the connection. At the time, Bleacher Report broke the figures down even more, noting the Celtics won in Game 6 that year, bringing their total championship victories to 17.

Do you think there is something to this? Is the universe trying to send us a sign that the Celtics' fate is sealed? Are our lives set in stone by a higher power who mocks our fantasies of free will? These might be better questions for a numerologist.
For what it's worth, Astrology.com notes that the "angel number 617" is "a reminder that you have the inner power to create and manifest anything you want in your life." How about Banner 18?
It remains to be seen if the Celtics will wrap up the series with a Game 5 win, but some other numbers reassure us that everything will end in Boston's favor. No team has ever bounced back from a 3-0 deficit to win the NBA Finals. If the Mavericks do it, they'll make history.
If the Celtics do what they're expected to, it won't be long before the 617 is once again Number 1. There's no better number than that.
