There's nothing quite like the postseason in Boston. We've been pretty lucky over the years to witness many of our hometown teams advance to the playoffs in a variety of sports.

Big Papi Makes Surprise Appearance at TD Garden

Currently, the Boston Celtics are battling it out against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA playoffs, and who was sitting just inches away from the court the other night? None other than "Big Papi" himself, David Ortiz.

He was one of many to fill a seat at TD Garden on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, showing his support for his fellow Boston sports family.

If you've ever attended a professional sporting event in Boston, you know camera crews love to capture these moments in the Jumbotron and when a World Series champion is in the house, you let them have their moment.

Fans React to David Ortiz on the Jumbotron

Fans erupted, rightfully so, when Big Papi took over the big screen. Seen wearing his shades, he stood and took a moment to wave to the crowd.

A History of Star Power Courtside in Boston

The Celtics have seen many A-listers sitting courtside over the years. From New England sports legends like Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, to former players like Paul Pierce and Ray Allen and even hometown boys like Mark and Donnie Wahlberg, the Celtics have a fan base that always shows up to electrify TD Garden.

Celtics Fall Short in Game 5 Against 76ers

Unfortunately, welcoming Ortiz was the only highlight of the night as the team fell to the 76ers in Game 5, 113-97.

Game 6 takes the series back to Philly Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 8 p.m. If the Celtics win, they'll advance to the second round. They currently lead the best of seven series 3-2.
