Big Y Is Coming to Fairhaven and Dartmouth
Bristol County is getting another major supermarket chain.
Big Y Supermarkets revealed plans to bring two new stores to Southeastern Massachusetts by 2027.
The family-owned supermarket chain announced on Thursday that they will be opening stores in both Fairhaven and Dartmouth at two familiar former retail sites.
According to a press release from the locally focused supermarket chain, things are going to get much more local for SouthCoast shoppers.
Where the New Big Y Stores Will Be
Plans call for a 62,000 square-foot Big Y at 7-9 Plaza Way in Fairhaven. The market will open in the former Big Lots building by spring 2027.

There will also be a 55,000 square-foot Big Y moving into the former Christmas Tree Shops in North Dartmouth's Faunce Corner Shopping Center. The location has a tentative opening date of Spring/Summer 2027.
Perhaps the storefront currently being used as a Spirit Christmas store means construction on the new supermarket will take longer to get underway.

Both of the SouthCoast’s first Big Y locations should open in less than two years and as the company's Vice President of Real Estate and Development, Mathieu L. D’Amour said,
“We look forward to bringing Big Y’s quality, convenience and community focus to Fairhaven, North Dartmouth and surrounding communities.”
Work at New Big Y Locations
Big Y Supermarkets have earned recognition from Forbes as a Best-In-State Employer in Massachusetts and Connecticut for seven straight years. More details on hiring will be available in the coming months.
